Izolda and Devi Dvali run a vineyard and guesthouse in northern Georgia’s mountainous Racha region.
Racha has a long history of wine-making, but also of rural poverty. Together, the local government and community consulted to identify sustainable tourism as their focus for economic development. While the government develops local infrastructure, individual families are learning new skills of hospitality and production.
This is one family’s story of the past and the future of their business.
As Mayor Zviad Mkheidze says, “Neither local authorities, nor people or local businesses alone will be able to achieve progress in Racha. We all need to unite and cooperate to achieve that.”
UNDP and the Swiss and Austrian Governments support regional development across Georgia.
